We recently had the pleasure of being featured on Astro Awani’s The Future is Female, hosted by the insightful Melisa Idris. The discussion highlighted the work we have been doing through our Women & Wealth Workshop and underscored why it’s so important for women to take control of their financial futures. When women support each other, incredible things happen.
The Future is Female: Empowering Women through Financial Literacy
Our Women & Wealth Workshop is designed to be a safe and supportive space where women can build their financial knowledge, as stated in Astro Awani’s The Future is Female. When women feel safe, extraordinary things happen. For the past two years, we have been working with women from diverse backgrounds to help them understand and navigate their financial landscapes. Many of these women are already financially literate in their own ways. However, there are always gaps and pieces missing. Our approach is to meet them where they are and provide guidance tailored to their needs.
The Future is Female: Meeting Women Where They Are in Their Financial Journeys
At the end of our 6-month mentoring programme, participants are equipped to make financial decisions on their own. Whether it is choosing the right insurance or takaful that fits their risk profile and personal circumstances, or planning for both the present and the hereafter, they gain the confidence and knowledge to invest wisely.
The Future is Female: Moving Beyond Conventional Financial Products
So, why do we focus on women? Typically, women often face unique financial challenges. They would often encounter conventional banking products that do not necessarily cater to their specific needs. Traditional products, like ASB Financing, do not always align with women’s financial realities. Additionally, women generally earn less than men and have longer lifespans. These factors create a financial discrepancy that traditional products fail to address.
The Future is Female: Reversing Financial Literacy Gaps for Women
In our conversation on Astro Awani’s The Future is Female, we discussed how important it is to reverse this trend. Instead of forwarding financial literacy, which often does not resonate with women, we aim to reverse it by making financial education more relevant and accessible. Our goal is to empower women to make decisions that truly suit their needs and to break away from financial norms that do not serve them well.
The Future is Female: Aligning with Islamic Financial Principles
As Muslims, it is also crucial to move away from riba (interest). The financial industry is predominantly conventional, and many products are not aligned with Islamic principles. This presents a challenge: how can we provide valuable guidance without pushing specific products? Our solution is to focus on education and strategy rather than sales. We aim to be a trusted resource for our clients, offering advice and support on financial strategies and life decisions.
The Future is Female is not just a theme but a call to action. We believe that empowering women with financial knowledge is essential for creating a more equitable and financially secure future. Our Women & Wealth Workshop embodies this vision by providing women with the tools they need to thrive financially.
